The first-born child to gentle Hanalan farmers, Kaylene could have been a great artist or a famous musician. Sadly, her parents couldn't afford her the education. But it didn't matter. She loved the arts with a passion and studied whatever she could get her hands on. Eventually, she learned to play the harp with a little help from a friend of her mother's.

She led a relatively happy and quiet life on the farm, helping her parents tend to the gardens and crops. She wasn't a green-thumb like her brother, but she tried her best anyway.

Not from the strongest stock, Kaylene was prone to illness as a child, which only served to get worse as she grew older as her family was unable to afford the proper medical care for her. This inspired Owen to seek out odd jobs and any work he could get in order to bring more money to the family.

She has her good and her bad days; on a really bad day she'll be bedridden with coughing fits and chills. But she remains optimistic that Owen's hard work will pay off and soon her family will be able to afford treatment for her.

Kaylene is every bit as gentle and soft-spoken as her brother; she always seems to be smiling or laughing. She's easy to talk to and doesn't seem to have an angry bone in her body. She's very precise and intelligent in the way she speaks.

Even with her physical weaknesses, her spirit is still strong. She hates to be a burden on her family, especially Owen; she knows how much he worries about her and how hard he works to earn money for her sake. So sometimes she tries to pretend she's just fine when she really isn't.

She's rarely seen without her harp, and loves to play a song for her family every night.

Kaylene is of average height with a slender build, curly strawberry-blonde hair, and reddish-brown eyes. She wears a pair of old, hand-me-down glasses with large, round frames, and a long red cloak over her simple dresses.
